Neo Sports: Rajnikanth - Non Striker

May 6, 2008 – 4:03 pm by Sulakshan | No Comments »

“Cricket Simplified”

How come we did not spot this one till date ? We love anything with Rajnikanth in it. I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed this ad. We have seen some really great ads for Neo Sports in the past (like the Tension ad that we showcased in our top 10 ads for 2007.)

There are quite a few Neo Sport ads in Cricket Simplified series. All off them are pretty good. But this one stands out.

I also liked the one below.

Ok, 1 more please. This one’s also cool.

I wonder, how come we missed such good ads.

I will get more details one who is behind these Neo Sport ads and update you guys. This is great work. These are way better than all the IPL ads, with film stars dancing to some shitty music.

Subhiksha Mobile

May 6, 2008 – 3:11 pm by Sulakshan | 5 Comments »

“Subhiksha Mobile: Tell Him To Call 60607777 !!”

Agency: Orchard Advertising

This is what we call ‘Ek Teer se Do Shikar’ (two strikes with one arrow). This is a pleasant and effective ad. This commercial repeats customer care number many times, without irritating the viewer (which is commendable).

I am very sure that many of us will definitely call this number to inquire about the price of a given model of mobile. Now if their customer care is as good as their ad, I am sure, this would definitely give them good business. I think that this new concept is here to stay and we will see many more companies advertising their customer care numbers.

Vodafone guys, please learn something from this ad. At least you should show your customer care number (have a separate number for new customers) in your new ‘Happy to Help’ ad. Not everyone has a pug :-)

Orchard Advertising: Good work guys !!

Pepsi : Mind It

May 6, 2008 – 8:35 am by Shiva | No Comments »

Totally Refreshing!!! Totally Southie Isstyle!!!

Of all the youngistan ads, this is a winner. There can be no one who has not been awed by Rajinikanth’s screen presence. This commercial emulates to an extent Rajini’s screen antics and surely does it well.

The “voice over” dubbing done for I YUM YUM YUS DHONI totally syncs with Dhoni’s persona. Everything about the ad was good - be it the facial hair style, the sun glasses, be it the decoration along the edges of the band. The ultimate was the ‘Cigarette look-alike’ thing turning into a straw. Kudos to the creative director behind it. Awesome!!!

Max Newyork Life : Pension Plans

April 23, 2008 – 12:50 pm by Shiva | No Comments »

One of the well-thought out ads in the recent past. Most insurance-related ads from my viewpoint have never hit the deck or laid the punch. But all that perception changes when once sees ‘Max Newyork Life - Pension Plans’ advertisement.

The ad traces the journey of man from his childhood through marriage, kids and retirement. As a child, he is cautioned not to jump into the river as a measure of discipline. The kid resigns to the caution, sacrifices his desire to play in the waters. Again when the person has a tiff with his boss, he flares up, raises to walk off, but is then cautioned by the image of his pregnant wife. There he is compelled to control his emotions. Similarly, he is cautioned by the image of his growing kids when he wishes to buy a new mercedes benz car. But then when he retires, he breaks free and jumps into the river to enjoy. The caption says “you have made enough sacrifices, compromises, but you dont need to compromise anymore”.

This truly drives the essence and importance of pension plan. It conveys how insurance planning with pension benefits drives home the safety factor that you need not compromise on quality of living for want of money or financial freedom. I just love the ad in a wholesome manner. I wish people make more sensible ads like this.

HCL : Touches lives

April 22, 2008 – 10:19 am by Shiva | No Comments »

Agency: Draft-FCB-Ulka, India

I think its a Self Adulation Effort from HCL and they have gone all the way out to do that in this ad. It seems like(atleast the story/screenplay behind the ad) the people talking about the wow’s of HCL Technology were pleaded/paid to deliver the dialogues given to them. I feel that the HCL admirers in the ad were giggling when they were saying their sentences. I do not understand the philosophy behind HCL going for such ads. If you want to project the versatility of your offerings, do it some other way and NOT THIS WAY! Also, the model representing HCL comes out as a snob when he talks. I dont think that gels well with people who see what an employee of HCL could be or conduct himself like.

If I see anyone from HCL involved in the advertising/marketing of this AD, I will say ‘COME ONNN’!

Cadbury Perk : Cast Away

April 19, 2008 – 5:34 am by Bibhuti | No Comments »

Agency: O&M, India

Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya
Har fikr ko dhuen mein udata chala gaya

The soul of the above beautiful lines is reflected in the new Cadbury Perk commercial in Cast Away style. The ad features Sharman Joshi who is on his own on a deserted remote island with only a flash gun and a box of Perk. All his efforts to escape from the island fail and he surrenders to his fate and learns to survive. One fine day, he sees a ship in the distant horizon and torches the flare gun and shoots it in the sky. The flare goes straight into the ship which bursts into flames and sinks.

With the last ray of hope gone he is back with his Perk and the voiceover says, “Yeh life hai… take it lightly. Cadbury Perk“. And then to his delight, he notices a beautiful girl walking to her from the debris of the recently sunk ship.

In second version of ad, the girls wants to go back and he will throw a bottle in sea with a note “Please send ship”. He will get the ship inside the bottle after some days and it’s again Perk which comes to rescue:)

Cadbury is trying to promote Perk which is a light, wafer-based chocolate with the theme “Take it lightly“. Kids and young people being the main consumers for choclate, this fun filled humorous approach works well.

IPL - Manoranjan Ka Baap

April 7, 2008 – 11:31 am by Sulakshan | 4 Comments »

This is one of the most funny and clever commercials currently on air. Its a simple idea, executed really well. Ads like this more often than not, go wrong in the execution phase, but this one is bang on the target. That filmi eighties kind of look and dialogs, perfectly suit this ad.

As per this article from Rediff, ‘An industry source said BCCI had allocated roughly Rs 100 crore as its (IPL) advertising budget,’. Normally with such high bugdets, creativity goes for a toss, because its easy to get all the stars with such money and have them sing and dance, shoot it on camera and call it an ad. I am happy to see that someone’s getting it right for BCCI.

It may be because most of the stars are associated to one team or other, so BCCI is left just with money and no stars, so all the big creative guys are having a good time. We hope to see more such brilliant ads as we get closer to IPL.

Check out the other brilliant IPL ad: Cricket ka Karmayudh.

One easy question: Who is Mano and Ranjan’s grand father ?
Simple: ICL. It helped BCCI to conceive IPL, their baap :-)

One more question: Does that mean BCCI is IPL’s mom ?
Err.. Maybe !!
