Headlines Today : Blah Blah
March 17th, 2008 by Shiva | Email ThisThis ad in essence conveys that all the shows by CNN IBN, NDTV and Times Now are nothing but just blah blah and that Headlines Today is the only sensible news channel. Although not obviously using their branding/logo , the ad conveys such an idea subtly by using look alikes and imitations of members of the news crew from those channels One thing I must say is that the impersonation artists used for Pranab Roy and other analysts did a good job.
Impersonations work well for fun and humor. But not in advertisements where you are trying to do product differentiation…Here, it is imperative that you do not ridicule the competitors to the core. Also, it is a must that you gauge your market value and people perception before you devise an advertisement like this.
It must take guts to put an ad like this. That too by Headlines Today, a TV News Channel that I think doesn’t even compare with CNN IBN or NDTV. In short, Headlines Today is probably the worst News Channel among the whole lot of English TV News Channel in India now - a channel that thinks today’s educated crowd is dumb enough to be carried away by all the sensationalisation and sleaze of their programmes.

This ad really sucks and so does the channel. They have nothing special to present and are desperate for the TRP’s.
CNN IBN, Times Now , NDTV are my favourites, in the same order.

The ad makes me chuckle, but I’m not gonna watch Headlines Today bcoz of it. Simply because from what I’ve seen it’s an Angrezi version of our trashy Hindi news channels. May it die a painful death.

The TVC is fantastic…Whats the point of taking a moral stance like bad taste etc…The fact of the matter is that this piece of communication has increased the recall of the channel many folds

Excellent ad. Precisely communicates the real worth of all those news channels. I have a suspicion this may not actually be Headlines Today ad, but more an ad by NGC/Discovery/Star World/Sports channels etc.
