Advertising world’s obsession with Che Guevara

February 21st, 2009 by Bibhuti | Email This

Ernesto “Che” Guevara, commonly known as Che Guevara, El Che, or simply Che, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, politician, author, physician, military theorist, and guerrilla leader.

It always puzzles me why Che Guevara is all over the T-shirts and so loved by advertising world. Agreed that he is a prominent historical figure but there are others equally powerful characters too. Probably some things just happen. Here are ten advertising campaigns, some good and some not so good, using Che Guevara.

    Oh the irony.

All those who wallow in the myth of Che should read a little about the man. On taking power in Cuba, he ordered hundreds of executions. While leading his guerillas , he shot a 15 year old boy in the head. He was a murderous, narcissistic little thug - his appeal to advertisers and impressionable idiots is based entirely on a single “iconic” photo.
