The Ashes series played between England and Australia is probably the most celebrated cricket rivalry and dates back to 1882. The only other rivalry which can match the passion and intensity is Ind Vs Pak. Until few years back The Ashes used to be just a formality where England was whipped mercilessly by Australia. With great players like Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden hanging their boots, the gap has diminished and England looks rather more potent currently to retain the urn.
As always the first salvo is already fired by Australia. Images of captain Ricky Ponting and his deputy Michael Clarke were projected onto the clock tower early on Thursday morning as part of an advertising campaign ahead of the opening Test in Brisbane on Nov 25. The images were accompanied by the words: “Don’t forget to pack the urn - bringontheashes.com”.
“Winning the urn back from our age-old rival is the most prized achievement for Australians and we just wanted to send them a reminder not to leave the urn behind,” Ponting said. “Our message is clear - we’re prepared and we’re ready, so bring on the Ashes.
